Manchester United will go toe-to-toe with bitter rivals Liverpool to sign Eintracht Frankfurt sensation, William Pacho.
The Red Devils have experienced numerous issues this season when it comes to their defensive line. They have already conceded 51 league goals and are on course to let in a few more when you consider they are still to play Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Newcastle and Brighton.
A devastating series of injuries which has seen every centre back injured at least once, with some suffering numerous knocks, has brought chaos to the defensive unit.
Furthermore, their objective has been complicated due to Erik ten Hag’s insistence on sticking to chaos ball, which leaves the team horribly exposed in transitions.
Therefore, new owners INEOS have made the signing of a centre back an absolute priority this summer, with names such as Jarrad Branthwaite, Jean-Clair Todibo and Gleison Bremer, very much in the mix.
One name that has been more recently added to this list is that of Franfurt’s William Pacho.
The Ecuadorian has been a regular this season, playing 41 times for the Bundesliga side. It was reported back in January that United were keen on the defender but the Germans placed a €60m price tag on his head to ward off any potentially interested clubs.
TBR Football has added an extra layer to the story by claiming that both United and Liverpool are interested in the player this summer. Sources have told them that “Eintracht Frankfurt defender Willian Pacho is the man both clubs had eyes on this weekend.”
The two North-Western rivals “were both represented at Bayern Munich’s clash with Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend.”
“The left-sided Ecuadorian centre-half has been earning rave reviews since moving to the Bundesliga in the summer.”
He has been described as “a left-sided central defender with superb spatial awareness, inch-perfect passing skills and a tackling game that’s been honed to perfection. He also has the technical nous to be able to play out from the back, and the pace to stay touch-tight to speedy opposition players.”
And at only 22 years old, he has much still to improve and could fit INEOS’ model of signing up and coming stars rather than the finished product.
