Manchester United will reportedly not sell their captain Bruno Fernandes this summer.

In a gloomy season that was only brightened up by a spectacular FA Cup win at Wembley, few players stood up to be counted.

This could not be said of captain Bruno Fernandes.

After an initial slow start to the season, the Portuguese roared back into life in 2024, scoring 15 goals and providing 13 assists in all competitions.

His final act of the season was an exquisite no-look pass for Kobbie Mainoo to slot in the club’s final and most important goal of the 2023/2024 season.

Worryingly for United fans, it has been reported as of late that United could be prepared to sanction the sale of any player who isn’t one of the young trio of Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund.

Whilst Erik ten Hag and Bruno Fernandes have both commented that they want the player to stay at Old Trafford, the problematic rumours won’t disappear.

Yesterday it was reported by Fabrizio Romano that Fernandes’ agent had met with European giants Barcelona and Bayern Munich, as he was unsure of United’s project moving forward.

What’s more it was relayed here yesterday that Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr are prepared to pay a colossal total of €150m to land the Portuguese star.

However Football Insider report that this is unlikely to come into fruition.

“… Fernandes is unlikely to seal a ‘surprise’ move away from Old Trafford this summer, sources have told” the website.

“It is believed the United captain wants to stay and sign a new deal – and is keen for the club’s new ownership to match his ambition.

“INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are ready to overhaul the squad and cement the club’s place in the Premier League’s top four next season.”

“It is believed club chiefs see Fernandes as a key part of that vision and are therefore not open to offers for the Portugal international this summer.”

The news will come as a big relief to United fans, who would be hard pressed to name any player who could fill the captain’s shoes, even with €150 million in the bank.
