Ryan Mason insists Tottenham still have ‘a lot to fight for’ as the club look to secure a place in Europe for next season.

Spurs host Crystal Palace in the Premier League this weekend as the north Londoners look to end a run of four games without a win.

Defeat at Liverpool last time out leaves Spurs seventh in the table and the club’s absence from next season’s Champions League could be confirmed if results go against them this weekend.

Mason says his focus in on Spurs’ own results and insists his team have much to ‘fight for’ as the club look to secure European football.

“It is important that we win. The only thing we can do is take care of ourselves. The league table will speak for itself at the end of the season because it doesn’t lie,” Mason told his pre-match press conference.

“We have had a very up and down season. Many things have happened, it’s no secret that we are disappointed with how it has gone but at the same time it is not over yet. We still have a lot to fight for and we all know that.”

Mason will come up against Roy Hodgson this weekend, with the veteran coach having returned to Selhurst Park last month. Hodgson began his managerial career in 1976, 15 years before Mason was born.

Mason believes Palace are now enjoying their ‘best moment of the season’ under Hodgson and said he is expecting a difficult test against the manager who handed him his England debut in 2015.

“I will always have a soft-spot for Roy because he gave me my England debut,” the 31-year-old said.

“So I will always be thankful for that but of course we are playing Crystal Palace in a very good moment – probably their best moment this season. So we understand it is going to be a difficult match but we are confident that in our stadium, in front of our fans, we can get a good result.”
