Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay says the atmosphere under Erik Ten Hag is not “a little bit toxic” – as it has been under previous managers.

The pressure on Ten Hag was eased by Wednesday’s win over Chelsea, but has been increased again after a limp performance in Saturday’s 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth.

United must now beat Bayern Munich on Tuesday and hope Copenhagen and Galatasaray draw to reach the knockout stage of the Champions League.

“It is the players’ responsibility first and foremost, the players know that as well,” said McTominay pre-match.

“We have had many amazing players over that time and I feel like we are at the stage where we have big characters in the dressing room.

“It is just not the case like [with] some of the other managers where it has been a little bit toxic at times.

“The boys are firmly behind the manager and that is the be all and end all. I have said that in many other interviews. That is the way it will remain.

“We have got amazing coaching staff as well. So, yes, people can get lost in translation and get carried away with what the players think and what they say behind closed doors – we just want to do well for the football club and it is as simple as that.”
