The new format of the Champions League sees Milan against some top teams in the League Phase.
The Rossoneri finished last season in 2nd place and qualified for the Champions League. Today, the draw for the League Phase took place in Nyon and the Diavolo learned their opponents.
The 2024/25 season is the first year where there is a new Champions League format. It now features 36 teams in the first round, aka the League Phase:
- Each team plays 8 matches against 8 different opponents – 4 at home and 4 away. The top 8 teams in the table advance for the Round of 16;
- Teams ranked from 9th to 24th will compete in playoff matches for a spot in the Round of 16, with the winners proceeding to the knockout stage. From then on, the competition follows the traditional format.
There are 4 Post based on European coefficient and each team plays 2 teams from each Pot. Milan found themselves in Pot 2, and were drawn against two teams from Pot 1, two from Pot 2, two from Port 3 and two from Pot 4.
The Rossoneri will face: Liverpool (home), Real Madrid (away), Club Brugge (home), Bayer Leverkusen (away), Crvena Zvezda (home), Dinamo Zagreb (away), Girona (home) and Slovan Bratislava (away).
