Kaoru Mitoma scored a superb injury-time goal as Brighton beat holders Liverpool 2-1 in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Moises Caicedo was, as expected, missing from the Albion squad.

The Ecuador midfielder wants to leave the club after Arsenal had a £60million bid for him turned down on Friday.

Trent Alexander-Arnold replaced James Milner in Liverpool’s only change from the goalless draw with Chelsea.

Seagulls boss Roberto De Zerbi was asked about the future of Caicedo before kick-off.

He told ITV: “Moises is a good guy, we will see tomorrow and the next days what happens. We hope he stays with us until the end of the season.

“In life you can make mistake. For everyone there are many solutions. We will see the best solution for him and for us.”

Liverpool took the lead in the 30th minute when Mohamed Salah teed up Harvey Elliott to fire home.

Brighton equalised in the 39th minute when Tariq Lamptey’s shot was diverted in by Lewis Dunk.

Mitoma then netted a goal in stoppage time to send Brighton through at the expense of the FA Cup holders.

The Japan winger controlled the ball superbly at the back post before teeing himself to volley over Alisson in the Liverpool goal.
