Sep. 5—THOMASVILLE- Thomas University’s Men’s Soccer Team opened the season with a 2-0 victory over former Sun Conference rival, Warner, in a match that took two days to complete. The match was halted in the second half on Friday, with Thomas leading 1-0. When play resumed on Saturday morning, Thomas added to their lead to secure the victory.
Aaron Sindhar scored the first goal of the season for the Night Hawks, in the 36th minute of the match. The goal came just over a minute after the Royals had a yellow card issued against them.
Thomas added an insurance goal in the 76th minute when Kieran McCombe scored on an assist by Diego Azar.
Goalkeeper, Jorge Gonzalez only faced one additional shot after the final goal by Thomas. On the day, Gonzalez only saw two shots on goal by the Royals in eight attempts.
The team then shifted gears to compete against Southeastern University in Lakeland, Fl., falling just short of a win.
The Fire (2-0-0, 0-0-0) were held without a point for the entirety of the first half by the Night Hawks (1-1-0, 0-0-0). Southeastern’s Roque Viegas Jr. was able to overcome the Night Hawk’s relentless defense, led by junior Alex Ruane , in the 62th minute of the match.
In total, the Night Hawks finished the day with five total shots with two on goal and a total of four corner kicks. The Fire recorded eleven total shots with one on goal and one corner kick. Southeastern’s Henrique Cavalini totaled two saves.
The Night Hawks are set to play their home opener on Thursday September 7th against SCAD- Savannah. Kickoff is scheduled for 4pm.
