Augsburg have announced the signing David Colina from Hajduk Split on a permanent deal, with the 22-year-old joining immediately.

Colina joins for an undisclosed fee and signs a contract with Augsburg until 2027. The left-back’s contract with Hajduk was set to expire in the summer.

On his move to Bavaria, Colina said: “FC Augsburg is a great opportunity for me. The very positive discussions with the club convinced me that this is the right step in my career, so I’m pleased that the transfer is over the line. I want to get to know my teammates as quickly as possible and get settled into the team.”

Sporting director Stefan Reuter also said: “In David Colina, we’ve signed a young full back who can play on either side. Not only is this versatility a great addition to the squad, but the team can also benefit from his dynamism and determination.”

The 22-year-old is the second Croatian Augsburg have signed in the past two days as they added striker Dion Beljo to their ranks. This season Colina has played 14 times for Hajduk, coming off the bench most of the time in the Croatian first division.

The signing of Colina helps boost the depth at left-back with Iago and Mads Pedersen being Augsburg’s only options until now. They still have a lack of depth at right-back with Robert Gumny as their only option.

Augsburg returned from their winter training camp on Thursday and have two friendlies against Wolfsburg before they resume their season against Borussia Dortmund on 22nd January.
