Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that they have completed the signing of striker Borja Iglesias on loan for the rest of the season.
The 31-year-old joins from Real Betis on a season-long loan, the loan deal has a buy option reportedly worth €8m. On his move to the Bundesliga, Iglesias said: “I am excited about the opportunity to be a part of it and will do everything I can to ensure the success of this team.”
The signing of Iglesias will provide much-needed depth at striker for Leverkusen. Due to the injury of Victor Boniface, Leverkusen are left with only Patrik Schick and Adam Hlozek as their striking options. Apart from a handful of games, the pair have failed to perform when acting as understudy for Boniface. The signing of Iglesias will give a much-needed boost to Leverkusen’s attack and may motivate Schick and Hlozek to step up.
Last season, Iglesias scored 15 goals for Betis in La Liga making him the joint fourth-highest goal scorer in the league. However, this season he has struggled for game time and has yet to score in LaLiga with most of his appearances coming off of the bench. This move to the Bundesliga may give Iglesias the much-needed boost to his season that he needs.
