Stuttgart have today announced the signing of Brighton forward Deniz Undav (27) on a season-long loan for a reported €700,000 with a purchase option included. Should VfB decide to sign the German striker on a permanent basis, Brighton can expect to receive a fee in the double-digit million range.

“I’m over the moon to be playing in the Bundesliga,” said Undav. “VfB made a lot of effort to sign me, so I knew quickly that I wanted to come here. The discussions with the coach were very good and I’m looking forward to getting started with the team.”

Just last month, in an interview with Kicker, Undav said that he would be open to returning to Germany if he had “the prospect of more playing time.” There’s a chance that Serhou Guirassy could yet leave Stuttgart, despite just signing on a permanent basis from Rennes. Any interested party in the Frenchman has until August 20 to activate the player’s exit clause, which is between €15m-€20m.

Should Guirassy leave, Undav will become Stuttgart’s undisputed No. 9 with Tiago Tomás, who spent last season on loan at Stuttgart, joining fellow Bundesliga side Wolfsburg on a permanent deal.

Undav scored eight goals in 30 games across all competitions for Brighton last season. Prior to that, the German scored 45 and created 18 in 70 games for Union Saint Gilloise.
