The 2024 Summer Olympic Games are underway in Paris, although the opening ceremony isn’t until Friday along the famous River Seine. The games will take place across 19 days with 329 gold medals up for grabs across 32 sports – including football. Football has been part of the Olympics since the 1900 games – coincidentally in Paris – and it got underway on July 24th with Argentina scoring a late equaliser against Morocco in a 2-2 draw in St Etienne.
It’s been a summer of international football competitions, after Euro 2024 and Copa America, and although the Olympics isn’t held in the same regard, there’s some notable players aiming to win a gold medal this summer! We’ve analysed the most valuable players competing in the Olympics this summer.
The most valuable players at the 2024 Olympic Games
Fresh from winning Copa America, Julián Álvarez is part of the Argentina squad at the Olympics and the Manchester City man is the most valuable player at the games at €90 million. Alvarez featured in the opening game against Morocco’s Achrf Hakimi and the PSG man is the second most valuable player at €60m. France are favourites to win the gold medal on home soil as their squad – managed by Thierry Henry – is littered with talent including Michael Olise. The 22-year-old completed his move to Bayern Munich earlier this summer and the winger is the third most valuable player in Paris – as the graphic below illustrates.
