Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund has spoken of his excitement to represent Denmark in this summer’s EUROs tournament.

The Dane has had a mixed debut season for United.

He got off to a flying start in the Champions League scoring five goals in six group games. However, he struggled massively in domestic competition, failing to find the back of the net until Boxing Day against Aston Villa.

Hojlund then went on a run of seven goals in six games until injury stopped him in his tracks in mid-February.

Another goal drought persisted in the spring until he scored two late goals as a substitute against Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion. His season, like the rest of the team’s, ended on the incredible high of beating Manchester City at Wembley to win the FA Cup, his first piece of silverware at his boyhood team.

The striker finished on 16 goals and 2 assists and was the club’s top scorer in all competitions, developing a strong partnership with fellow youngsters Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

The Danish international has an impressive record for his country, scoring seven goals in 12 appearances.

Speaking to Danish magazine Tipsbladet, the youngster revealed his excitement for the upcoming tournament and how pleased he will be to pull on his nation’s colours in just a couple of weeks.

“It’s going to be insanely cool. I was close to making it last time (to the World Cup in Qatar), but stumbled right at the finish line. I’m really looking forward to it – now we’ll first have to see if I get selected.

“It means a lot to me to play on the national team, and it always has. I have always followed the national team and been a big supporter – even when things didn’t go so well.”

Speaking on the significance of representing his country he stated, “I am very patriotic, and it’s something very special to take the field with other Danes and play against other nations. It will always be special to me.”

Finally, Hojlund insisted that he wasn’t putting too much pressure on himself but believes his side are good enough to get into the knockout phase of the tournament.

“I have never been the type to set a goal for myself, but of course, I will be happy if we advance from the group stage, and I can help the team along the way by scoring some goals.”

De Rød-Hvide will take on England, Slovenia and Serbia in Group C and narrowly missed out on a final appearance in 2021 when their group opponents, England, knocked them out in extra-time of the semi-finals.
