Fabrizio Romano reports that RB Leipzig are leading the race to sign Xavi Simons on loan as the 20-year-old is set to return to PSG.

PSG have activated a buy-back clause in Simons’ PSV Eindhoven contract worth €6m to bring him back to the club, only a year after he left the club. The Parisians will now make a decision on whether they will send Simons out on loan this season with a decision expected by Tuesday.

If Simons is loaned out, he could potentially end up in the Bundesliga with Leipzig. Several teams are interested in the 20-year-old but Leipzig are pushing for Simons and leading the race. It was previously reported that Leipzig were interested in Simons before he returned to PSG but the Dutch international was too expensive.

In his only season in the Eredivisie, Simons finished as the league’s top goalscorer with 19 goals and nine assists in 34 games as PSV finished but were able to finish as winners of the KNVB Beker, beating Ajax in the final.

Leipzig are continuing to invest in their attack this summer as they make up for the departures of Christopher Nkunku (Chelsea) and Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool). This summer alone, Leipzig have brought in Benjamin Seško (Red Bull Salzburg), Christoph Baumgartner (Hoffenheim), Fabio Carvalho (Liverpool) and Loïs Openda (RC Lens) to boost their attacking options.
