With both of VfB Stuttgart’s strikers in form right now, head coach Sebastian Hoeneß was going to face a headache choosing between Sehrou Guirassy and Deniz Undav but he has come to a solution.
During his press conference ahead of Stuttgart’s game against Werder Bremen at the weekend, Hoeneß confirmed that the pair will start together: “Both will be on the starting grid. I’m looking forward to the double top! Serhou and Deniz are in top form.”
The pair have played together previously but usually with Undav playing more as a winger but against Bremen they will be used as a tandem.
Both have surprised a lot of people this season with their form. Guirassy is currently on 15 goals and is challenging Harry Kane for the top scorer title with his progress only hindered by an injury in October. While Undav has exceeded expectations as an understudy. In nine Bundesliga games, with five of them being starts, the 27-year-old has scored seven times for VfB.
The form that the pair have reached this season goes to show the impact that Hoeneß has had during his short spell at the MHP Arena as the pair have led the team to compete for a European place after being in the Relegation Playoff last season.
