Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani could turn to Tottenham after withdrawing his interest in taking over Manchester United.
Sheikh Jassim informed Manchester United’s owners, the Glazer family, that he has withdrawn his proposal to buy the club, following a series of failed bids for the Premier League side.
The Qatari banker’s final package was understood to be worth more than £5bn and included a promise to clear the club’s debt and invest in infrastructure.
He has now decided to withdraw from the process, after deeming the Glazers’ valuation of the club unrealistic, with British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe expected to agree a deal to purchase 25% of the Red Devils and assume sporting control.
According to the Mirror however, Sheikh Jassim could still invest into the Premier League and Tottenham are of potential interest.
Spurs held talks with Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi about the prospect of his Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) investing into the north Londoners earlier this year.
No investment from the Qataris has since materialised, but Al-Khelaifi was influential in Sheikh Jassim’s decision to pursue a deal for Manchester United and could promote investment in Spurs, as Qatar look to join Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi in becoming major players in the Premier League.
