Manchester City have made history after completing the Treble this season, having added the UEFA Champions League to their Premier League and FA Cup trophies won earlier in the campaign.
City have become just the second English team to win all three trophies in the same campaign, following Manchester United’s treble success in 1998/99.
After the Citizens clinched the treble, we look back at six wins that defined their season.

Manchester City 6-3 Manchester United (October 2, 2022)
Manchester City began the Premier League season in impressive form, before a statement result against their arch-rivals in early October.
City cut apart their cross-town neighbours in a ruthless derby destruction at the Etihad, one which saw Erling Haaland maintain his explosive start in English football with a hat-trick. Haaland’s hat-trick was his third in just five Premier League games, while Phil Foden claimed a match ball of his own with his first treble for the club.

It was a devastating performance from Pep Guardiola’s side, who led 4-0 at half-time in a punishing performance. Haaland’s hat-trick saw him make it 17 goals in just 11 starts since arriving from Borussia Dortmund, underlining the goalscoring prowess that had made him Europe’s most coveted talent last summer.
This was an example of the firepower in Guardiola’s squad, a derby dismantling to hand Manchester United a reality check and a result that will live long in the memory.
Manchester City 3-0 Bayern Munich (April 11, 2023)
When the quarter-final draw for the Champions League was made, the consensus was that the two tournament favourites had been drawn together after Manchester City were paired with Bayern Munich.
What had been billed as a blockbuster showdown between Europe’s best proved a one-sided affair in the first leg, as City took control of the tie with a near faultless performance.

Rodri opened the scoring with a spectacular strike to score his first Champions League goal, before two goals in six minutes after the break handed City a commanding advantage.
Bernardo Silva headed home a second from Erling Haaland’s cross, before the latter scored his 45th goal of the season – a record for a Premier League player in a single campaign – to complete the scoring.
This was the clearest indication yet that Guardiola’s side were equipped to end their European wait.
Manchester City 4-1 Arsenal (April 26, 2023)
For much of the season Arsenal looked capable of winning the Premier League title. So much so, that no team has ever spent longer at the top without being crowned champions.
The pendulum of the title race was beginning to swing towards Manchester when the title rivals went head-to-head in April, before an outstanding performance from City ensured the momentum was irreversibly with the defending champions.

Kevin De Bruyne scored two and set up another as the midfielder combined with Erling Haaland to devastating effect. This was two of the division’s very best players at the top of their game and Arsenal had no answer, with De Bruyne firing home a well-taken opener before turning provider for John Stones to head home a second.
De Bruyne collected a pass from Haaland to make it three after the break and the latter – who had set up both of De Bruyne’s goals – got on the scoresheet late on to complete the rout.
Arsenal were humbled and given a clear lesson on the standard needed to win the Premier League. City moved within two points of the well-beaten league leaders, crucially, with two games in hand.
Manchester City 4-0 Real Madrid (May 9, 2023)
The performance of the season from Pep Guardiola’s side, who turned in a display of the highest order to reach the Champions League final.
Vinicius Junior and Kevin De Bruyne had exchanged outstanding goals in the first leg to leave the tie perfectly poised, but City ran riot in the return.
Bernardo Silva scored twice in the first half to put the hosts in control, in an opening 45 minutes that saw the Citizens dominate the ball and cut apart their overwhelmed opposition. Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez added further goals after the break and, but for Thibaut Courtois, this could have been even more embarrassing for Real Madrid.

The Spaniards pride themselves on a rich European heritage and rarely falter on this stage, but Carlo Ancelotti’s team were blown away by arguably the most complete Champions League performance seen from an English team.
Pep Guardiola had been cautious of treble talk, but it was hard to avoid after this semi-final masterclass. If a team as experienced and talented as Real Madrid could be beaten in this manner, who could stop City?
Manchester City 2-1 Manchester United (June 3, 2023)
After the Premier League title had been wrapped up, the second leg of a potential treble saw Manchester City take on their fiercest rivals in a historic FA Cup final.
Never before had a domestic cup final staged a Manchester Derby, but it was an occasion to savour for the blue half of the city. Ilkay Gundogan was the hero for Pep Guardiola’s side with a match-winning double at Wembley, the first arriving after just 12 seconds for the fastest goal in FA Cup final history.
The German midfielder lashed home a stunning strike to open the scoring, before Manchester United levelled through Bruno Fernandes’ penalty.
Gundogan delivered the decisive moment of the final as the City captain struck a second goal, meeting Kevin De Bruyne’s free-kick to volley past David de Gea. City celebrated a seventh FA Cup success and moved one win away from footballing immortality.
Manchester City 1-0 Inter Milan
Manchester City’s wait for Champions League success was ended as Guardiola’s side defeated Inter Milan 1-0 to be crowned European champions for the first time.
Rodri’s goal was the decisive moment of the final at the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul, as the midfielder arrived onto a loose ball to fire home in the 68th minute.
City started as favourites in the final, but were forced to recover from the setback of losing Kevin De Bruyne to a first-half injury against an organised Inter Milan team. The Premier League champions also survived late scares as Federico Dimarco hit the crossbar for Inter and Ederson made a fine save from Romelu Lukaku.
The full-time whistle confirmed City’s status as treble winners, just the seventh team to achieve the feat in the Champions League era and only second English side. The demons of Monaco, Liverpool, Spurs, Lyon, Chelsea and Madrid were exorcised, as the club finally scaled club football’s summit after near misses and past disappointments.
City have dominated domestically in recent seasons to become recognised as arguably the Premier League’s best ever team. Their treble success has added greater weight to that argument.
