As soon as the news of Southampton’s relegation became a reality, the names of two players popped up as a potential transfer target of Premier League clubs. James Ward-Prowse and Kyle Walker-Peters became top targets of clubs looking for a world-class midfielder and a talented full-back.

Ward-Prowse and Walker-Peters both have played international football for England indicating their acumen. And in their bid to keep the door of Gareth Southgate knocking, they would want to perform in the Premier League. Despite such speculations, we may not see the 26-year-old talent next season.

Walker-Peters likely to stay, says journalist Dean Jones:

According to journalist Dean Jones, Walker-Peters may stay and play for the Saints. Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I don’t think Walker-Peters is an obvious player that leaves Southampton.

“Like he’s the sort I can imagine doing a year in the Championship. But I could definitely imagine why they would want to go and get a price just in case it fits in better with their plans.”

Meanwhile, teams like Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Manchester United are not bothered by Jones’ claim as they believe the Englishman to leave. The defender had recently iterated his inclination towards Premier League.

“It’s tough for me to say right now but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I want to be playing in the Premier League,” the 26-year-old said. “I want to get an opportunity to represent my country again. That’s a really big goal of mine, so yeah, those are my personal goals.”

Of all the interested parties, Tottenham Hotspur appears particularly keen to bring Walker-Peters back to their ranks. The North London club previously sold him to Southampton for a mere £12 million in August 2020. While former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino allowed him to leave, he now sees the versatile defender as a valuable addition to his revamped Chelsea team.

Both the clubs will have to act soon as Aston Villa looks closer to getting their hands on the youngster especially after they let Ashley Young leave the Villa Park.
