Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag has held a meeting with the agent of Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus ahead of a possible transfer, according to reports.

The Red Devils are having a good season this term with Ten Hag bouncing back from a terrible start, losing his first two matches against Brighton and Brentford, to guide Man Utd to 12 wins from their next 17 Premier League matches.

That sees them comfortably in the top four, one point ahead of fourth-placed Newcastle, three points adrift of arch-rivals Man City – who sit second – and eight points off Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Man Utd spent over £200m in the summer to help Ten Hag get his own players in with some fans and pundits raising their eyebrows at huge sums spent on Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez.

However, most of his signings have proved everyone wrong with their performances and Ten Hag is looking to add to his squad again in the summer transfer window.

Wout Weghorst, who has joined on loan from Burnley until the end of the season, is their only signing in the January transfer window so far and reports have claimed that they will only bring in loan signings in this window before a push in the summer.

And one player who could be coming to Old Trafford at the end of the season is Dortmund forward Reus, whose contract contract is expiring in June.

Reus has been at Dortmund for over a decade after joining from fellow Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012, scoring 156 goals in 368 appearances in all competitions.

And Bild journalist Christian Falk has now revealed that Man Utd boss Ten Hag had a “secret meeting” with Reus’ agent Dirk Hebel over a potential summer move.

Falk wrote in his Caught Offside column: “Manchester United is an option for Marco Reus. I heard there was a meeting between his agent, Dirk Hebel, and Erik ten Hag; they talked about Reus and Erik seemed to be interested. They have to see what happens in the summer but he’s an option as a potential free agent.

“Erik is familiar with Marco’s quality, so this will be serious. No decision yet, of course.

“I heard also that Hebel had talks with Manchester City – these weren’t particularly concrete, as City feel the player is too old.

“Secondly, Hebel then travelled to London, so I wouldn’t be surprised to hear of any links in future between Reus and clubs based in the English capital.”
