Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag admitted that his side were “far from fluid” after narrowly beating Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
Scott McTominay scored for the third time in two games to give the Red Devils the lead in the 28th minute of Saturday’s game. But the Scot handled the ball minutes later to gift the hosts a penalty, which Oli McBurnie converted.
Diogo Dalot was the hero on a night when football paid tribute to Man United legend Sir Bobby Charlton, who passed away on the morning of the game. The Portuguese full-back found the net from long range with a sweet strike to claim all three points for the visitors.
“Every game is tough in the Premier League,” Ten Hag told BBC Match of the Day. “Always after international breaks when players play different styles and systems with their nations and then when you get back you have to get back to your routine.
“You saw in the first half it was not our best game, it was far from fluid. We got a goal but we have to be more composed and more mature to stay in the game at 1-0 up and now give up the goal so quickly.
“At half time I said find a way to win and I think we were much better in the second half.
“Scott McTominay is a very good fighter. He arrived there at the right moment and it was a good goal.”
The win moves Man United up to eighth in the Premier League table on 15 points after nine games played. They face Manchester City at Old Trafford next Sunday.
