Chelsea are set to table a very competitive offer to blow any competition out of the water for Atalanta star and reported Manchester United midfielder Teun Koopmeiners.
Koopmeiners is believed to be one of the names on United’s wishlist ahead of the summer transfer window.
United’s need for midfield reinforcements is apparent and this could become even more urgent in the event that Casemiro and Christian Eriksen leave the club.
The declining Casemiro continues to be linked with a switch to Saudi Arabia while Eriksen has made no secret of his displeasure with the amount of playing time he has been afforded by Erik ten Hag since the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo.
Some of the midfield players United have been mentioned to be in for include Joao Neves, Amadou Onana, Mandela Keita, Ederson, Nicolo Barella and Koopmeiners, just to mention a few names.
United have scouted Koopmeiners in the past and the club’s representatives were present to watch him bag a sensational brace against Juventus last month.
The Netherlands international also opened up on his future a few weeks ago and explained that he desires a new adventure away from Atalanta. He named England as a possible transfer destination and claimed he could brave the rain for one or two clubs he likes.
Liverpool are known admirers of the 26-year-old and now Chelsea have also joined the race to secure his services.
The Blues are said to be keen on offering Atalanta more money than teams like United and Liverpool to enhance the chances of landing Koopmeiners.
It’s understood that Chelsea sent representatives to track their player during Atalanta’s incredible 3-0 victory against Liverpool in the quarter-final of the Europa League last week.
While he didn’t get on the score sheet, Koopmeiners performed well and was a force to reckon with in the middle of the park. He highlighted why top Premier League clubs are after him.
While Atalanta were open to accept a fee in the region of €55m (£47m) for their coveted star, Chelsea are willing to submit a €60m (£51.3m) bid – such a scenario would likely spark a transfer war among United, Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Koopmeiners has registered 11 goals and three assists in 27 top-flight appearances this season.
