Malick Thiaw commented on defending against Lukaku as Milan got a 2-1 win at the Olimpico.
After beating Bologna 2-0 and Torino 4-1, Milan went to Stadio Olimpico last night to take on Roma of José Mourinho.
The Rossoneri were the better side for most of the match, despite playing in 10 men for 30 minutes, with Fikayo Tomori being shown 2 yellow cards, and they got a deserved win, with Olivier Giroud (9′ pk), Rafael Leão (47′) and Leonardo Spinazzola (93′) on the scoresheet.
“We are very, very happy to get the win today and also in the last games,” Thiaw told MilanTV. “So I think we started the season very well, the season is still long but we’ve done well until now, so we need to continue like this and even to do better and to improve a lot.
On defending against Belotti and Lukaku: “They are very strong but I think as a defender you have to be strong as well and not make life easy for them. We tried our best and we have to work with the team, it’s not only the center backs or the defenders, also the midfielders have to close the passes and they did very well. So we did very well I think. Of course, we conceded one goal but I think we can do better even with 10 men but I think we did well.”
On the squad: “The team is very good together. Everybody who has come is very good with each other, so I think even the guys who are not playing right now are trying to motivate everybody and we are on a really, really good path to perform as a really strong team and be together off the pitch and on the pitch.”
Speaking to DAZN, the German center back said: “We are happy for today, even after the red we remained united. The season is still long, but obviously we are happy after these 3 wins in 3 games.”
How was facing Lukaku for you?
“It’s not easy to defend individually, as always we have to defend as a team and we did well.”
How were the last minutes?
“It was not easy to defend, we stayed calm by talking a lot. Last year, in January, we weren’t talking to each and conceded the equalizer despite being 11 against 11.”
