Toffees board stays away as Saints sink Lampard’s flops

The crisis at Everton deepened as they slumped to a 2-1 home defeat to bottom side Southampton.

There were chants of ‘Sack the board’ before, during and after the match but they were not there to hear them, having been ordered to stay away from Goodison Park due to a “real and credible threat to their safety and security”.

Club officials called it a “profoundly sad day” and it got no better on the pitch as James Ward-Prowse scored twice in the second half to cancel out Amadou Onana’s opener.

The result means Southampton remain bottom but are now level on points with Everton, who have just one win in 11 league matches, piling the pressure on Frank Lampard.
