Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly initiated discussions with the agents of Micky van de Ven, the talented Wolfsburg defender, with hopes of securing a potential summer transfer.

Van de Ven, known for his versatility in defense, could address the club’s long-standing need for a left-sided center-back, a position that was temporarily filled by the resourceful Ben Davies during Antonio Conte’s tenure.

As a left-footed player, van de Ven possesses a sought-after attribute in the modern game, making him well-suited for the position. At only 22 years of age, he continues to refine his skills at Wolfsburg.

His potential acquisition would not only strengthen the squad’s depth in the present but also offer a promising investment for the future. The level of interest demonstrated by the talks suggests that Spurs acknowledge the necessity for quality reinforcements in their central defence.

However, it remains to be seen whether the club’s decision-makers were impressed by the insights shared by van de Ven’s representatives and whether they will proceed with a formal move.

It is worth noting that the defender’s existing contract with Wolfsburg extends for another four years, granting the German club significant influence over his future. Last season, van de Ven showcased his importance to Wolfsburg by featuring in 36 games across various competitions.

Tottenham’s desire for a new centre-back is no secret. Considering how bad the defence was last season, it comes as no surprise that they are linked with a move to van de Ven. However, he does not have the experience yet.

The likes of Clement Lenglet, Roger Ibanez and Edmond Tapsoba have all been linked with a move to the N17 with no avail. Thus, it looks like the club have turned their attention to the Wolfsburg centre-back.

Ange Postecoglou is the new manager at Tottenham and he will know that one of his main issues at hand would be to sort the defence of Tottenham Hotspur out. He needs players who are adept at playing in his system as well.

We must remember that Van de Ven is young and not every player finds it easy to adapt to the Premier League. Thus, we must give him the time and keep patience even if he takes time to settle in.

The Wolfsburg defender represents a very interesting option at Tottenham. Let’s see how the club go about shoring up their defence this summer.
