Tottenham Hotspur are currently on the hunt for a new permanent manager after Antonio Conte was relieved of his duties last month.

Club chairman Daniel Levy has reportedly drawn up a shortlist of potential candidates, with several high-profile names currently being considered.

After overseeing a tremendous campaign this season, Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has recently emerged as a top candidate.

Tottenham have endured an underwhelming campaign this term, currently sitting in fifth place in the Premier League table and trailing fourth place Newcastle by three points.

They are not out of the top four race yet, but after being knocked out of every major competition already, the Spurs fans have been left disappointed.

Conte departed the club by mutual consent in March after he vented his frustration to a 3-3 draw with Southampton, which proved to be the final straw for Daniel Levy.

Feyernoord, on the other hand, currently find themselves eight points clear at the top of Eredivisie and are on their way to their first league title since 2017. Incredibly, the Dutch club have lost just one game all season.

According to reports coming out of the Netherlands, Tottenham would have to pay a ‘record fee’ in terms of compensation to prise Slot away from Feyenoord.

The 44-year-old manager is under contract until 2025. He does have a clause that would allow him to leave earlier – but that will only come into effect in the summer of 2024.

Slot was previously linked with a switch to Leeds United when they sacked Jesse Marsch in February.

However, the coach reportedly turned down their approach as he wanted to create a legacy at Feyenoord.

Indeed, In response to rumours about him taking the job at Elland Road, one of Slot’s players, Alireza Jahanbaksh, gave his thoughts on why he decided to remain in Rotterdam.

He said: “We are working on something special at Feyenoord, together we can achieve great things.

“It is better to go when you have really left something behind at a club. Legacy, that’s what we are working on.

“Not everyone is driven by money. Feyenoord is a big club, but how many times has there been a championship to celebrate? Twice in the last 25 years, right?

“I can imagine the coach wants to be champions, we players want that too. Besides, we can win the cup and we are still in the Europa League. So much to play for.

“You never know for sure if the chance will come again That makes it hard to say no. But if you have confidence in your qualities and you dare to be patient, there will always be another chance. Personally, I think Arne Slot wants to win a prize with Feyenoord.”

However, it is now believed that if Tottenham are willing to pay Slot’s compensation fee, he could be convinced to depart the Dutch club at the end of the season.

As mentioned, he is not the only candidate being considered, with Brendan Rodgers, Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea target Julian Nagelsmann all linked with the Spurs job.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Tottenham put their money where their mouth is to bring in Slot this summer.
