Ange Postecoglou’s side started brightly and looked to switch the play often, with star midfielder James Maddison dropping into dangerous positions.

The English star’s movement and passing was pivotal to the opener as he came deep to receive the ball before spraying a diagonal ball wide to the right side of the field.
It quickly found its way to Kulusevski on the right flank, who drove with the ball at Colwill before cutting in on his left foot and firing the ball at goal.
However, his shot hit Colwill and bounced harmlessly past Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez who could do nothing to keep the ball out.
Tottenham came close to doubling their advantage in the following minutes when Pedro Porro unleashed a well-timed volley, but Sanchez did well to keep the ball out.
It was then Chelsea’s turn to have a golden chance when a mistake from Pedro Porro saw the Blues break quickly but Nicolas Jackson was denied by a fine save from Guglielmo Vicario.
Heung-Min Son had the ball in the back of the net inside 15 minutes after steering home a low cross from Brennan Johnson but the South Korean had strayed marginally offside.
