RED DEVILS TURN TO BURNLEY FLOP FOR HELP … BUT THERE’S A CATCH

Dutch star Wout Weghorst could be set for another crack at the Premier League, but it might not be with Burnley.

The towering forward move to Turf Moor in January 2022 but scored just two goals in 20 Premier League appearances as Burnley were relegated.

Not keen to sit around in the Championship, Weghorst was farmed out on loan to Turkish giants Besiktas where he has eight goals and four assists in 16 league appearances.

The Dutchman also starred for his nation at the World Cup, scoring the Netherlands’ last-gasp equaliser against Argentina to send their quarter-final clash to extra time.

According to The Athletic, so impressive were Weghorst’s performances for club and country this season that he is now a prime target for Manchester United.

The Red Devils have reportedly made inquiries to Burnley regarding Weghorst’s availability

but to bring him to Old Trafford, United must get Burnley to agree a deal with Besiktas to end the Dutchman’s loan early.

United see Weghorst only as a loan deal until the end of the season, but would he be the right man to help score vital goals to ensure the club returns to the Champions League?

RACE FOR KUOL NEARING ITS END

Recent Newcastle United recruit Garang Kuol had a long list of suitors wanting his signature for a loan deal, but it appears one club has won the race.

The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope reports Kuol will head to Scottish Premiership side Hearts for the rest of the season.

The Socceroos teen sensation will bring the club’s Australian contingent to four, joining Nathaniel Atkinson, Cameron Devlin and Kye Rowles at the Edinburgh outfit.

It will be Kuol’s first club adventure abroad having plied his trade solely with A-League Men’s side Central Coast Mariners.

The 18-year-old was in sensational form leading up to his move away and finally made his first A-League start on December 17 in a 2-1 win over Sydney FC.

SPURS EYE SUCCESSION PLAN FOR LLORIS

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris may have signed an extension that will keep him in North London until 2024, but it hasn’t stopped Spurs from scouting out his eventual replacements.

The 36-year-old gloveman has been a constant presence having first signed in August 2012, although the club acknowledges a succession plan must be put into place in the not-too-distant future.

According to The Telegraph, Spurs have set their sights on either Brentford’s David Raya or Everton stopper Jordan Pickford to fill the void between the sticks.

The report claims no move for a new goalkeeper will be made in January, but will likely be revisited in the summer.

Raya has impressed for Brentford since the Bees were promoted, while Pickford’s contract situation with the Toffees could see him become an alternative option for a good price.

STRUGGLING CHELSEA APPROACH FRENCH GOAL MACHINE

Chelsea need all the help they can get at the minute as Blues boss Graham Potter struggles to stop a horror run of form.

However, could Chelsea find the key to salvaging their season in the form of French forward Marcus Thuram.

The Daily Mail reports Chelsea have made contact with the Borussia Monchengladbach star’s camp for a potential move.

Thuram is out of contract in the summer and by all accounts seems content to see out his deal ahead of a free move in six months time.

However, it could lead the German club to cash in on Thuram now rather than lose him for nothing at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old has 10 goals in 15 Bundesliga appearances and would no doubt slot straight into a Chelsea lineup desperate for attacking inspiration.
