Sky Germany reports that Union Berlin are working on signing Chelsea striker David Fofana on loan.

Talks between the clubs have progressed in recent days and the aim for Union is that Fofana joins on loan without an option to buy. Bild reports that the deal is likely to be completed in the new few days.

The 20-year-old only joined Chelsea in January from Molde in Norway for €12m, but received very little game time during his first six months in England. Fofana only played four times for Chelsea without scoring as the club finished 12th. A move to Union will give the 20-year-old a chance to play Champions League football with the Bundesliga club.

Fofana will add more depth to Union’s attacking options as they compete on three fronts this season. The Ivorian joins Sheraldo Becker, Kevin Behrens, Jordan, Jamie Leweling, Mikkel Kaufmann and potentially Benedict Hollerbach as forward options in Köpenick.

The arrival of Fofana will be Union’s fourth signing of the summer. The club have already completed the permanent signing of Kaufmann, while Alex Kral and Brenden Aaronson have joined the club on loan.
