According to Sport Bild, Union Berlin sporting director Oliver Ruhnert can leave the club at the end of the season if he wishes.

Despite Union usually keeping the length of contracts secret, it is reported that at the end of this season, if he wishes to do so Ruhnert can leave the club. However, at the moment the 51-year-old is comfortable at the Berlin side and is happy with how the club operates.

Ruhnert has previously been interested in a new challenge at a different club and if he was offered the sporting director role at the DFB he would have seriously considered moving. It is suggested that Ruhnert would be interested in moving to Schalke, who is the club that he supports but only if the conditions are right. While Borussia Mönchengladbach is another alternative for the Union director.

Ruhnert has been key in helping to build Union into the club they are today having joined the side in 2018 with his help and his shurd signings Union have played in all three European competitions while also reaching a DFB-Pokal semi-final. However, in recent weeks the bubble at the club may be beginning to burst as Union currently sit 13th in the Bundesliga on a five-game winless run.
