Legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has expressed how proud he is of his son Darren after he led Peterborough United to a second EFL Trophy Final win at Wembley on Sunday.

Darren has won four promotions in his four spells with the Posh and there’s a chance he may make it five this term.

Peterborough captain Harrison Burrows scored twice in six minutes to snatch the EFL Trophy at the expense of Wycombe.

Burrows fired his side ahead with five minutes left on the clock. His shot proved too powerful for Wycombe goalkeeper Franco Ravizzoli who couldn’t keep it out.

Substitute Dale Taylor restored parity a few moments later and it seemed like the game was heading into extra time.

However, Burrows hit a fairytale winner in the dying embers of proceedings to clinch the win for Darren Ferguson’s side at Wembley.

Ex-United boss Alex Ferguson was present to watch his son’s team in action and he wasn’t disappointed. Fergie skipped attending the Red Devils’ 2-2 clash against Liverpool at Old Trafford to be there for his son, who manages Peterborough.

The 82-year-old told Sky Sports after the final whistle, “It’s the second time Darren has won here. He’s getting used to and he’s going to want to come back.

“It wasn’t a great game, but it always had you on the edge of your seat. Peterborough kept promising to win, but they had to wait until the very end to do it. It was really dramatic.”

Fergie added, “Darren took advice from me early in his career, but he’s been a manager a long time now and won lots of promotion. It’s fantastic. He’s gathered a lot of experience over the years which helps.”

“There have been turbulent times and good times and I’m very proud of him. We chat a lot about football in general terms. But we talk rather than me give him advice.”

Posh are currently in fourth place in the League One standings and return to action on Wednesday when they face strugglers Port Vale.
