Ex-Manchester City champion and Belgian international, Vincent Kompany will be back in the Premier League but not in the same way we used to see him. The 2019 Man City winning captain has signed an official contract with Burnley who have qualified for the Premier League after winning in this season’s Championship.

The 37-year-old manager’s success at Burnley had linked him with the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham. He however has discarded those options and expressed his likeliness towards staying in Lancashire after recently signing a new five-year contract with Burnley.

Kompany said: “Burnley and Turf Moor felt right pretty much from the start – so it also feels right to sign for the next five years.”

“Together with the fans we have made Turf Moor a fortress again and continue to look forward to the future and the job of making Burnley better with every step.”

Even the club is extremely satisfied with Kompany. He led the Clarets to the Premier League with 7 games to spare and have shown glimpses of Pep Guardiola like footballing instinct. Why wouldn’t he? After all he was Pep’s favourite student.

It was Pep who himself had admitted that Kompany has the acumen to become a well-established coach and in his short span of managership, Kompany has laid stone to the words of Guardiola. He has shown glimpses of Pep in the way his team won the league.

Burnley had already been promoted to the Premier League with seven games to spare and won the second-tier Championship with 3 games remaining showcasing their dominance in the league. The club finished with 98 points, 10 more than second-placed Sheffield United. The Clarets scored the most goals in the league (84) having conceded only 35, the least by any team.

Burnley chairman Alan Pace was impressed with their performance and added: “We are ecstatic Vincent has signed a new deal. He is the perfect fit for how we all see Burnley Football Club moving forward.”

“An extraordinary leader, setting ever higher standards and driving our club to the levels we all want to achieve.”

In only a few months’ time will we see Vincent Kompany probably facing his former team and teammates but in a different role altogether.
