Following Eden Hazard’s departure, Vinicius will take over ownership of Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic No.7 jersey for the 2023/24 campaign.

Real Madrid have announced that Vinicius Junior will wear the No. 7 shirt in the upcoming season.

Previously worn by Cristiano Ronaldo, the shirt was vacant after Eden Hazard’s departure. The Belgian owned the jersey since his arrival in 2019. However, with both club and player agreeing to part ways this summer, Vinicius has now snapped up the No.7 for himself.

Ronaldo wore the No. 7 for eight of his nine seasons from 2010 until 2018. The Portuguese ace became Real Madrid’s all-time record scorer in this period, scoring 450 goals in 438 games, and won four Champions League trophies.

Some of the other high-profile players who have worn the No. 7 shirt for Real Madrid in the past include Raul Gonzalez, Emilio Butragueño, Juan “Juanito” Gomez, and Amancio Amaro.

Vinicius’ Brazil teammate Rodrygo Goes will now wear the No. 11 shirt, which was previously worn by Marco Asensio, who will leave the club at the end of his contract this month.

The No. 9 jersey, which Karim Benzema previously wore until his move to Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad this month, remains vacant.
