It would be easy for Randal Kolo Muani to define himself as the striker that missed the golden goal to win the World Cup for France. There were just moments to play in the final against Argentina when goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez stopped the 24-year-old striker. Kolo Muani has admitted that that moment has preoccupied him. “But it is something that has made me stronger,” the striker said.

Indeed, the Eintracht Frankfurt striker has not lost a beat since the World Cup. Signed on a free transfer from Nantes last summer, the native of Bondy scored five goals and 11 assists in 14 Bundesliga games going into the World Cup break. Going into the break, Kolo Muani also scored two Champions League goals in six games and one goal and one assists in two DFB Pokal matches.

Then came the World Cup, where Kolo Muani was a late replacement for the injured Christopher Nkunku, scoring one goal—the crucial opener against Morocco—and one assist in three games. The World Cup final miss aside, the 24-year-old, in fact, highlighted that he could be more than just an alternative for boss Didier Deschamps.

Despite World Cup drama – Kolo Muani has not missed a beat

As mentioned, that World Cup final seems to have spurned on the 24-year-old to highlight that he is more than that missed opportunity against Martínez. Since the return of the Bundesliga, Kolo Muani has added four goals and one assist in four Bundesliga games, including a brilliant goal against Bayern Munich. A bit of a late bloomer, the striker has increased his Goalimpact (here is how it works) from 119 to 127 since joining the Eagles, which puts him in the range of a good Champions League player. Kolo Muani’s peak Goalimpact is now 133.6, and that tendency is also on the up.

Kolo Muani, in fact, seems to have found a different level in the Bundesliga since the World Cup. The striker now leads the league with 21 scorer points (nine goals and 12 assists). The Frenchman is four scorer points ahead of a certain Jamal Musiala (overview). The Bayern forward, together with Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, is arguably the most talented player in the Bundesliga. Still, Kolo Muani is now in a group with the likes of Nkunku and Jude Bellingham closely behind the German national team stars.

A status that was underlined in this week’s DFB Pokal match against 2. Bundesliga leaders SV Darmstadt. Kolo Muani scored twice against Frankfurt’s local rivals, including the all-important first goal and the goal that sealed the 4-2 victory. “I’m pleased that I’m demonstrating my qualities more and more, and obviously, I’m also benefiting from my teammates, who are creating good chances for me,” Kolo Muani said after the game, in which he was voted the player of the match.

Kolo Muani: Market value debate and a future at Eintracht Frankfurt?

But Kolo Muani’s performances have not been left unnoticed. The striker has already been linked in the rumor mill with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, and Tottenham. Bayern Munich are another candidate. For the German record champions, the Frenchman is a candidate should their dream target Harry Kane become impossible to sign.

The question, however, is, will Kolo Muani be much cheaper than Kane at this point? At this point, it is essential to underline that Frankfurt signed the Frenchman on a free transfer from Ligue 1 side FC Nantes. That deal on its own might already be not just the transfer of the season in the Bundesliga but perhaps in all of Europe. Since signing in Frankfurt, Kolo Muani has steadily increased his market value from €20m to €37m.

Kolo Muani received his latest market value update right after the World Cup, seeing his value grow by €7m from €30m to €37m. In hindsight a conservative update. With the striker spectacularly confirming his World Cup performances, €37m might not even be enough for one of Kolo Muani’s legs. The decision-makers in Frankfurt would, of course, like to keep the forward, and should the Eagles reach the Champions League, that is certainly a possibility. But even if the club misses out on the top four prices paid for the likes of Mykhaylo Mudryk means that Frankfurt will demand in the region of €70m to €100m for Kolo Muani.
