Speaking in an interview with Sky Germany, RB Leipzig’s Xaver Schlager has stated that although he is happy at the Bundesliga club, he would one day like to play in the Premier League.

“Of course the Premier League appeals to me at some point,” said Schlager. “It’s the best league in the world. But at the moment I feel very comfortable in Leipzig. I’m happy here.” The Austrian then discussed his plan: “My career plan is to become the best possible version of myself.”

Speaking back in 2019, Schlager stated that he one day would like to play for Arsenal.

Schlager joined RB Leipzig from Wolfsburg in the summer for a reported €12m and after a difficult start under Domenico Tedesco, the Austrian is now a key player under Marco Rose, whom he played under at RB Salzburg, and has established himself in Leipzig’s midfield alongside Amadou Haidara and Kevin Kampl.

Schlager (25) has a contract with RB Leipzig until 2026 and since moving to Germany from Austria in 2019, has played in 80 Bundesliga games during his time at Wolfsburg and Leipzig.

Rose’s RB Leipzig are third, just two points behind second placed Freiburg and six behind leaders Bayern Munich. All eyes will be on RB Leipzig vs Bayern Munich on January 20 when the Bundesliga resumes following the winter break.
