Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer has tonight reached a verbal agreement to join Bayern Munich, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg.
Hasan Salihamidžić and Bayern officials identified Sommer (33) as a replacement for Neuer, who broke his leg in a skiing accident, and will miss the remainder of the season.
This latest development comes after AS Monaco remained strong in their stance regarding Alexander Nübel, who will now remain at the Principality side until the end of the season.
In addition to what Plettenberg, who broke the Sadio Mané to Bayern transfer, reported, Blick further add that Sommer will sign a contract until 2025.
But Sommer, who has spent the last 7.5 years at Borussia-Park, will only be allowed to join Bayern Munich this month should Borussia Mönchengladbach sign a replacement. FC Lorient’s Yvon Mvogo was a candidate last month but most recently, Copenhagen’s Mathew Ryan has been offered to the Bundesliga club.
Bayern Munich would like to sign Neuer’s replacement by January 6, the day they start their training camp in Doha, but it’s unlikely that Sommer will have signed by then.
