World No. 1 Korda boarded the 5:30 a.m. shuttle on Tuesday to tee off before 7 a.m. at Liberty National and enjoy a quiet practice round. Her coach, Jamie Mulligan, isn’t in New Jersey this week but his colleague, Brett Lederer, was on hand to offer a second set of eyes. They FaceTimed Mulligan from the course.
“After a certain amount of weeks you always fall back on your tendencies,” said Korda. “I don’t see myself, so whatever I feel versus real is very different.
“So having someone here that kind of knows my tendencies and can help me with it really helps. I did a lot of work yesterday with Brett and Jamie, and hopefully that will get me ready for the next four days.”
Korda recent hosted her first AJGA event, The Nelly Invitational, and the champion of her event, Aphrodite Deng, is in the field tis week. Korda hasn’t seen Deng yet this week, but did FaceTime with her after the victory at Concession.
As for the streak coming to an end, Korda said she hasn’t put too much thought into it.
“I feel like with sports you’re always looking ahead, what’s next, getting ready for the next event,” she said. “It’s quite tough to look back and let that sink in.”
