Australian star Cameron Smith was left to rue a “frustrating week” with the putter as he finished tied for sixth place at the Masters.

Smith was the best of the Australian contingent at Augusta with a final score of -2 with bolter Cam Davis the best of the rest with a final finish of T12 and +1.

Fellow Aussies Min Woo Lee and Adam Scott ended their spells at the Masters T22 while Jason Day finished T30 with +5 as amateur Jasper Stubbs failed to make the cut.

Smith began his fourth round strongly with an eagle on the second, but a bogey on the fifth dropped him back slightly on the leaderboard.

Although the proud Queenslander felt he performed strongly, he pondered just how well he could’ve done if his putting game — something which he’s renowned for — was on point.

“Yeah, it’s just a frustrating week, I think,” Smith told Fox Sports’ Paul Gow in an interview at Augusta.

“Can’t really say much more than that. I hit the ball how I know I needed to and put my ball in the right spots on the green, just the putt didn’t fall this week.

“It was very frustrating. I feel like that’s as good as I’ve played around here and the putts didn’t go in.”

Lee along with Day were the best performing Aussies in the fourth round of the Masters as both carded three-under.

Like Smith, Lee fired an eagle on the second but was brought back to par with a double bogey on the seventh hole, which the Aussie described as “a blemish”.

Yet the cult hero carded birdies on the ninth, 14th and 18th to record a score of 69.

Lee revealed his desire to make the cut for the RBC Heritage tournament — an event with a staggering purse of $20 million — that fuelled him to perform well in the final round at Augusta.

“I knew I had to play for quite a few things,” Lee said.

‘Ridiculous’ Day opens up on new swing | 02:15

“I’m trying to get into next week at Hilton, so had to keep my head in there.

“I played really well. Nice birdie on the last to shoot three-under, which is good around here.”

As for Day, he was proud of how he finished despite dealing with a new style of swinging the club.

“It still feels all off, and trying to do that, let alone play in a major championship, let alone play with Tiger Woods and let alone play in 40-mile-an-hour wind, is just, like, ridiculous,” Day said.

“So it was nice to play and get through the first two days. Even though it wasn’t pretty, but that’s where you’ve got to make the changes, is under certain types of pressures and environments and hopefully they stick at some point.

“Today was a big step in the right direction, so I’m looking forward now.”
