The week after a major championship is always tough to get up for, but we push forward. This week, the PGA Tour is back in the Lone Star State for the Charles Schwab Challenge at the historic Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

Defending champion Emiliano Grillo, coming off a missed cut at the PGA Championship, is hoping to go back-to-back, but he’ll have to fend off a solid field to do so, a group that includes world No. 1 and Texas favorite Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler, fellow Texan Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa, Max Homa, Tony Finau and Sungjae Im are just some of the big names in the field.

The winner will take home $1.638 million and 500 FedEx Cup points.

Picks to win

2024 PGA Championship

In his last two starts, Homa has finished T-8 at the Wells Fargo Championship and T-35 at the PGA Championship. His iron play is rock-solid, but he just needs to find some fairways around this tree-lined golf course

Last season, Homa finished ninth at the Charles Schwab and 23rd in 2022.

2024 PGA Championship

Finau played some great golf at Valhalla last week, but a final round 1 under pushed him down the leaderboard a bit and he tied for 18th. At a golf course that plays very similarly to Colonial — Harbour Town Golf Links — Finau finished T-12 at the RBC Heritage a month ago.

Before missing the cut at the Charles Schwab last year, Finau finished fourth (2022), 20th (2021), 23rd (2020) and second (2019).

2024 PGA Championship

English has played consistent golf all year long. In 13 starts, English has made 12 cuts and finished inside the top 25 eights times, two of these being top 10s.

He’s coming off a T-18 performance at the PGA Championship last week and tied for 12th at last year’s Charles Schwab.

2024 Valero Texas Open

McCarthy is going to win on the PGA Tour at some point, so why not back him at a golf course that should fit his game perfectly?

Before missing the cut at the PGA, McCarthy tied for sixth at the Wells Fargo Championship and grabbed a share of 28th at the RBC Heritage.

He missed the cut at Colonial last season but finished 27th in 2022.

Earlier this season, McCarthy lost in a playoff in Texas — Valero Texas Open — to Akshay Bhatia. Maybe this is his revenge week.

If you’re looking for a name further down the board, I like Lee Hodges in this spot.

He’s finished T-24 (Wells Fargo Championship) and T-12 (PGA Championship) in his last two starts and he hits a ton of fairways (ranks 21st on Tour in driving accuracy at 69.10 percent).

In two starts at Colonial, Hodges has finished 29th (2023) and 35th (2022).
