The LPGA returns to Florida for the penultimate event of the season at the 2022 Pelican Women’s Championship. Defending champion Nelly Korda leads a field of 120 players at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, who will compete for the $2 million prize purse.

Following a week in Japan where Scotland’s Gemma Dryburgh became the 11th Rolex First-time Winner of the season, the Pelican marks the final opportunity for players to secure their spot in next week’s season-ending CME Group Tour Championship. The Tour Championship, held at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Fla., is limited to the top 60 players in the Race to the CME Globe.

Heading into this week in Belleair, three major champions sit on the bubble, with Sweden’s Anna Nordqvist at No. 59, Stacy Lewis at No. 60 and Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn at No. 61.

Last year at the Pelican Women’s Championship

Last year at Pelican Golf Club, Nelly Korda arrived as world No. 1 with three tournament wins on the season already in her pocket. Following a blistering 7-under 63 on Saturday, Korda headed into the final round tied with fellow American Lexi Thompson. Competition stayed tight on Sunday, especially after Korda made triple bogey on the par-4 17th hole. But she bounced back with a birdie at 18 in regulation and made the four-way playoff with Thompson, Lydio Ko and 2020 Pelican winner Sei Young Kim. Playing 18 for the second time, Korda dropped a birdie putt from 23 feet on the first playoff hole to capture her fourth victory of the season and seventh of her career.
