Augusta National Golf Club will be the centre of the sporting world this weekend, hosting the illustrious Masters for a 87th time.
The tournament, first played in 1934, serves as the first men’s major of the season, with 89 competitors battling for the famed green jacket.

Participation in the Masters is by invitation only, and the tournament has the smallest field of the major championships. American star Scottie Scheffler, currently No. 1 on the World Golf Rankings, will be hoping to become the first consecutive champion since Tiger Woods achieved the rare feat in 2001 and 2002.

HOW TO WATCH
Foxtel (Channel 503) and streaming platform Kayo will broadcast the Masters live and ad-break free. Australian golf fans can watch the action from Amen Corner or Holes 15 and 16 on Fox Sports 5 and Fox Sports 6 respectively.

Jon Rahm
“He’s been a little bit off the boil the last couple of weeks, but for the last six months, he’s clearly been the best player in the world,” Geoff Ogilvy said on Fox Sports’ Aussies at the Masters.
“Rahm just has that big tournament sort of thing going on. He always makes big putts at the right time. He’s got an incredible short game and he just hits it long. He’s confident.
“He does generally hit a fade, which traditionally isn’t the shot for the Masters, but he can really move it whichever way he wants.
“I think it’s his time to stamp himself as the best golfer in the world … it would be really cool to see him win this.”
Rory McIlroy
“I think the expectations are low. He has been playing well, but not great,” Paul Gow said on Fox Sports’ Aussies at the Masters.
“He back-doored a second here last year … but he’s just a quality player.
“I know he’s had a lot on his plate of late, but he’s just that player. He’s a ball-striker, he hits different shot, I think he’s wise.
“His expectations are going to be a lot lower. I know they go up on Sunday afternoon, but he’s old enough to handle that now. I think this is his time.”

“He loves playing at Augusta,” Braith Anasta said on Fox Sports’ Aussies at the Masters.
“He has been in good form without being in great form.
“It’s a bit of a smokey, but I’m just loyal.”
Gow continued: “It’s not a bad pick … he’s a quality player, as long as he doesn’t play in the Par 3 and twist his ankle.
“He’s got to go to that next level and win a major … he might as well make it this one.”

IS TIGER WOODS PLAYING?

Woods, who is a five-time Masters champion, is scheduled to tee off at 12:18am AEST on Friday, alongside Viktor Hovland and Xander Schauffele.
It will be the American legend’s 25th appearance at Augusta National.
“I don’t know how many more I have in me,” Woods confessed on Tuesday.
In February 2021, Woods was involved in a serious car crash that resulted in leg injuries and required extensive surgery, but the 47-year-old has been participating in select events since his rehabilitation.
“My game is better than it was last year at this particular time. I think my endurance is better,” Woods said.
“Whether I’m a threat to them or not, who knows? People probably didn’t think I was a threat in 2019 either, but it kind of turned out okay.”
ARE LIV GOLF MEMBERS ALLOWED TO PLAY?
Because the PGA tour has no jurisdiction over the Masters field, banned players can compete at Augusta National this week.
