FALL RIVER — When it came to making tough shots, these high school golfers swung and putted their way to victory.
Greater Fall River golfers put on a show, just like they did a season ago, while sharpening their skill level. Durfee’s Brady Sullivan had a season to remember in his final season on the golf course
The Herald News is pleased to announce the 2023 Golf All-Scholastic teams from Greater Fall River high schools:
Golfer of the Year: Brady Sullivan, Durfee
Every season, Brady Sullivan’s golf game got better and better. Last fall was no exception for the Durfee senior.
Sullivan shot an area-best 38.5 average, using a cumulative point total (best six players of eight). The Hilltopper senior captain was the low scorer in 12 of 13 matches he played. Six of his matches were at Durfee’s home course Fall River Country Club, which was a more difficult spot to play.
Sullivan, who shot a season-low 34 against Middleboro, was named a Southeast Conference All-Star. In special tournaments, he was a medalist (lowest score) at the Sullivan Cup at Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton, shooting 74. At the SEC championship at DW Field in Brockton, Sullivan shot a 75, which was tied for second place.
He helped lead Durfee to a 8-5-1 record.
“Brady was a positive influence on all team members and showed terrific sportsmanship to all his competitors,” Hilltoppers head coach Robert Silvia said. “Just an absolute joy to coach and a huge asset to our team.”
Owen Boudria, Westport
Boudria had a solid season for the Wildcats in 2023 … he was named a Mayflower Athletic Conference South All-Star … played as Westport’s No. 1 golfer all season and compiled a regular season match record of six wins and three ties … the junior golfer tied for fourth place individually in the conference tournament and help lead the team to a second-place finish … was the team’s low scorer in the state tournament appearance … this is Boudria’s second Herald News All-Scholastic honors.
Alex Crook, Somerset Berkley
Crook finished the fall season as one of the Raiders’ most dependable golfers … he was named a South Coast Conference All-Star … the junior golfer had a scoring average of 41.5 … finished the year playing in the top spot for SBR while playing in every match … Crook was a team medalist at the league championship at Allendale Country Club and individual qualifier for state sectionals … this is Crook’s first Herald News All-Scholastic honors.
Ryan Farrell, Case
Farrell had a monster season for the Cardinals this past fall … he was named a South Coast Conference All-Star for the third season in a row … the senior golfer competed in 59 matches and two state tournaments during his career … finished the season with 10 first-place finishes, four second-place and five third-placeS in 20 matches … averaged a team-best 40 … was Case’s back-to-back Most Valuable Player … a four-year starter and three-time Herald News All-Scholastic.
Bob Leach, Diman
The sophomore golfer had another sensational fall season for Bengals … he was named Diman’s lone Mayflower Athletic Conference All-Star … finished with an 8-3-1 record … he also shot an 86 in the state qualifier round … Leach is making his second straight Herald News All-Scholastic first-team appearance.
Cooper Spirlet, Westport
Spirlet completed a solid final season for the Wildcats this past fall … he was named a Mayflower Athletic Conference South All-Star … the senior golfer had a regular season match record of six wins and a tie … Played as Westport’s No. 2 golfer all season long … he tied for fourth-place individually in the conference tournament and helped the team to a second-place finish … this is Spirlet’s first Herald News All-Scholastics honors.
Devin Viera, Durfee
The junior golfer had a solid season for the Hilltoppers this past fall … he was named a Southeast Conference All-Star … finished with the second lowest score on the team with a 42.0 … had a season-low score of 38 against Bridgewater-Raynham, Brockton and New Bedford … he shot an 83 in the Southeast Conference championship … helped lead Durfee to an 8-5-1 record … this is Viera’s first Herald News All-Scholastic honors.
