The eyes of the sports world are on Las Vegas for the Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers, but the PGA Tour’s annual stop in Phoenix provided a tasty appetizer for the big game.
Inclement weather derailed the tournament schedule for the 2024 WM Phoenix Open and made for a marathon final day of play at TPC Scottsdale, which featured the conclusion of the third round, an exciting final-round playoff finish and a few clutch putts.
Charley Hoffman took the late clubhouse lead at 21 under following a stellar 7-under 64 in the final round, but Nick Taylor (65) was able to join him thanks to three birdies over his final four holes. Taylor, 35, went on to claim his fourth PGA Tour win with a birdie on the second playoff hole on Sunday. Two-time defending champion Scottie Scheffler (66) finished T-3 at 18 under alongside good friend and Ryder Cup partner Sam Burns (64). Sahith Theegala (69) was solo fifth at 17 under.
Next week Tiger Woods and the PGA Tour head to famed Riviera Country Club for the 2024 Genesis Invitational, the third signature event of the season.
