Red-hot Aussie Min Woo Lee has shot to the top of the leaderboard with a sublime 64 following an absurd final hole at the Australian Open on Friday.

Lee, fresh off winning the Australian PGA Championship last week, shot seven-under in the second round thanks to one of the best eagles you will ever see.

The 25-year-old rising star found the trees off the tee at the 18th but then smoked his second shot off the pine straw, hitting a 173m nine iron to within a foot of the flag. He tapped in for eagle.

Cameron Smith was flirting with the cut line (-2) early but has caught fire on the back nine to finish at three-under after shooting a 68. However, after bogeying the 17th he threw his ball in the water in anger.

Former world No. 2 Smith said he was “frustrated” with his first round, where he shot a one-under 71 to be sitting in a tie for 56th.

Fellow Australian Cam Davis didn’t get off to a great start in his second round, double bogeying the seventh hole, and his now +5 on his round today through 16 holes.

Davis shot a course record-equalling 63 on The Lakes course on Thursday to hold the clubhouse lead at the conclusion on Round 1.

Lee treated the crowd to an epic chip-in during the final round of his win last week and five days later, he’s done it again.

With his second shot on the par three fourth hole, Lee perfected a bunker shot and found the bottom of the cup for birdie.

Smith teed off on midday on The Australian course with Lee and Japan’s Rikuya Hoshino.
