Australian star Jason Day is looking to stay in the mix as The Sentry nears a thrilling conclusion.

Day started the final round strongly with four birdies in the space of five holes on the front nine and was within touching distance of leader Chris Kirk.

However, the Aussie hit a double bogey on the eighth which saw him slide down the leaderboard in a brutal blow.

Day has since recovered four birdies in his last five holes to sit at 24 under, three shots off the lead. The winner at Kapalua set to net a cool $AUD5.4 million in prize money.

Elsewhere across the field, America’s Brendon Todd suffered a moment of mandess when he snapped his driver in a fit of rage after a wayward tee shot.

It was not the ideal moment for Todd to lose his head as he snapped it when he was at 21 under.

Should Day somehow surge up the leaderboard, he’d become the second Australian to win The Sentry in the space of three years after Cameron Smith emerged victorious in 2022.

In fact, Smith’s score of 258 (-34) set the course record as he ousted Jon Rahm by just one stroke to take home first place.

Day enjoyed solid scores throughout the first three rounds to keep pace with leader Kirk.

The Aussie fired scores of 65, 69 and 67 in the first, second and third rounds respectively to give himself a chance of winning $5.4m.
