Third round halted due to inclement weather

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Play was halted once again during the 2023 Masters at Augusta National Golf Club.

The horn sounded Saturday afternoon during the third round, suspending play for a third time in two days as heavy rain continued to fall and standing water began to pool in areas around the course. Tournament officials made the official announcement at 3:15 p.m. ET, just 15 minutes to the live coverage on CBS.

Brooks Koepka is atop the leaderboard at 13 under through six holes. Jon Rahm is second at 9 under, also through six holes, while amateur Sam Bennett is third at 6 under. Patrick Cantlay, Matt Fitzpatrick, Collin Morikawa and Viktor Hovland are tied for fourth at 5 under.

Phil Mickelson is among a group of six golfers tied for eighth at 4 under.

The third round began late Saturday morning after 39 golfer finished their second round. Play was suspended Friday for the second and final time after three pine trees fell near the 17th tee box. There were no injuries, Augusta National confirmed.
