Emma Raducanu has been awarded a wildcard into a WTA 1000 event in Indian Wells, the tournament announced.

Raducanu, ranked at No 80 in the world, just missed out on making the main draw cut for Indian Wells.

However, Raducanu will be competing in the desert this March after the tournament’s main draw wildcard. Raducanu, 20, is set to make her third consecutive Indian Wells appearance. In 2021, Raducanu had a first-round bye in Indian Wells before losing to Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the second round.

Last year, Raducanu again had a first-round bye in Indian Wells – this time she defeated Caroline Garcia before losing to Petra Martic in the third round.

Raducanu returns to action later this month

Raducanu, who sustained an ankle injury in Auckland and later suffered a second-round exit at the Australian Open, will return to action in late February at the inaugural ATX Open in Austin, Texas.

After Austin, Raducanu will go to Indian Wells and Miami. “Hey Austin, it’s Emma. I’m very much looking forward to coming and playing the tournament there. I’ve heard so many great things about the city and I’m really looking forward to checking out myself.

Hopefully I’ll see you there,” Raducanu said in a video message she posted on her Instagram Story. The ATX Open is set for its inaugural edition and they are absolutely thrilled to have Raducanu in their tournament. “We are thrilled that Emma, the youngest Grand Slam champion in the game today, will be coming to the ATX Open.

We look forward to her joining Danielle, Sloane and Peyton for our inaugural tournament, and are very excited to know that we will be welcoming them to Austin in less than one month,” said Christo Van Rensburg, DropShot Series Tournament Director.

The start of the season wasn’t really bright for Raducanu, who suffered a very unfortunate ankle injury in Auckland. In the United States, Raducanu will be hoping to do well and lft her confidence levels.
