In recent years, he has been a star several times, has won important prizes and has become the best Italian tennis player. Matteo Berrettini also became the first Italian tennis player in history to reach the Wimbledon final and his achievements, including participation in the ATP Finals, have not gone unnoticed.

2022 was a very hard year for Matteo, the Roman athlete once again suffered a series of injuries and saw his best moment cut short because Covid forced him to withdraw (before the first round) at the beloved Wimbledon tournament.

The London tournament awarded no points this year and as a consequence Matteo fell behind in the rankings, dropping out of the Top Ten and ending the season 16th in the rankings, as Italy’s number two, just behind Jannik Sinner.

Still, it was a bitter season, with Berrettini losing in the Davis Cup doubles final against Canada. Berrettini is currently one of the stars of the Diriyah Cup, an exhibition tournament that takes place in Saudi Arabia. Matteo was eliminated in the first round against the Swiss Stan Wawrinka, but on social networks he continues to be the protagonist.

The event’s social channel published a fun video in which the Italian athlete has to answer a series of questions, some of the most common for a tennis player. The question that is almost always asked refers to the choice between Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal, Matteo hesitates but in the end he chooses Roger Federer, in fact his idol, one of the athletes he has always respected.

Another curious question concerns the choice between winning a Grand Slam title and Olympic gold, and here Matteo is in no doubt.

Federer spent time practicing with his biggest rivals

Roger Federer appeared as a guest on Trevor Noah’s The Daily Show on Wednesday night.

“I think the end was very emotional,” the former World No. 1 said. “And to be actually on such a great sort of friendship really with the guys at the end of my career, after everything we’ve gone through. Brutal matches, great wins and tough losses and at the end always having this camaraderie is amazing.

I mean, maybe just a little anecdote, because maybe people don’t know, but we share the same locker room, we share the same restaurants. We usually get put in the same hotels. So we see each other all the time. And we even practice together,” he remarked.

“But that’s why I ended up not practicing very much with Novak and Rafa anymore. Not so much with that guys. But yeah, with a lot other guys, Stan Wawrinka, my guy, yeah,” he added.
