2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics gold medalist Monica Puig took to Twitter to reveal that she participated in her first marathon. Over this past weekend, 29-year-old Puig made her marathon debut at the NYC Marathon. Puig, who retired from professional tennis in June, enjoyed her first marathon experience and revealed she plans to have more of those in the future.
“Completely overwhelmed with emotion over this! Pushed my body to the absolute limit and it was MORE than worth it! First marathon in the books and already looking forward to the next!,” Puig wrote on Twitter.

Puig clarified herself on Novak Djokovic
Last week, Puig asked Twitter followers how it was possible that Novak Djokovic qualified for ATP Finals as a Wimbledon champion but Elena Rybakina didn’t qualify for the WTA Finals.
Later, Puig realized that the ATP has a Grand Slam qualification rule, which says the eighth spot for the ATP Finals is reserved for a Grand Slam champion who is also ranked between 8th and 20th on the Race to Turin list.
The WTA doesn’t have that rule in its rules book. Puig admitted that she didn’t know about the rule before but underlined that it wasn’t a good reason for some to come after her. “Ok people need to chill.
As for my tweet yesterday, I was genuinely confused. I got clarification from many who were very helpful, however, from the others who were super hostile and rude. DO BETTER! No need to be all grumpy gills over literally nothing.
It’s the last I’m going to say on this matter because arguing with you all is exhausting. I have NOTHING against Djokovic. I’ve met him several times and I admire all his achievements. He qualified and that’s great! I just didn’t understand the ATP and WTA rules,” Puig wrote on Twitter.
