If anyone can break down those Nick Kyrgios walls, it is Derek Zoolander himself.

The Australian on Wednesday morning gave fans the news they have always wanted to hear — that he is finally considering hiring a coach.

However, the situation took a pretty dramatic turn when Hollywood legend Ben Stiller emerged as the top contender for the position.

The 28-year-old tennis star has always been resistant to the prospect of hiring a coach — something that has infuriated fans and led to ongoing claims he is not committed to the sport and is wasting his talent.

While the situation on Wednesday turned into some light-hearted banter, the 2022 Wimbledon finalist’s first message was still significant.

Kyrgios posted his question on Twitter on Wednesday as he prepared to jump on a plane to fly overseas ahead of the 2023 grass court season.

“Thinking about coaching, any takers,” he asked.

Stiller was not the person he would have expected to hear from.

“I’m open to it. But would need to know you’re serious,” the American actor responded.

Kyrgios followed it up with another cheeky comment.

He wrote: “Let’s do it. I’m all in, what you thinking?”

Kyrgios shared the exchange on his Instagram page and posted another comment to suggest he is very serious about looking for a coach.

“I’m talking professionals… I’ll do it when I’m playing as well,” he wrote on his Instagram stories.

It’s not the first time Kyrgios and Stiller have crossed paths.

Kyrgios made a pitch to star alongside Stiller in his next film after the pair’s hilarious interaction at the Indian Wells tournament in California last year.

Kyrgios at the time dragged Stiller into the angry moment he vented his frustration at the behaviour of some spectators in the crowd.

The actor was sitting in the front row behind the baseline when someone in the crowd ticked Kyrgios off, perhaps suggesting where he should serve or what he should try to disrupt Nadal.

The heckler replied “no” when Kyrgios asked “are you good at tennis?”. The world No. 132 then pointed to Stiller as he added: “Exactly, so don’t tell me how to play. Do I tell him how to act?”

In the aftermath of Kyrgios’ exit from the tournament, Stiller replied to Kyrgios on Twitter by writing: “Great match today”.

Kyrgios responded: “Thanks. Maybe we can start working on the next film together, I think I got some acting in me. How is your tennis?”

Stiller came back with: “I could use some help with my serve but maybe a new doubles team? We can discuss it on set …” he said.

Kyrgios has famously not carried a coach in his entourage, preferring to do his own training, despite the likes of former world No. 1 and seven-time grand slam champion John McEnroe offering his services several times over the years.

Kyrgios previously said he would be a “nightmare” for a coach because he’s “too set in my ways and I just don’t like to listen to advice”.

Most recently it was tennis superstar Novak Djokovic that offered his services as a potential coach for Kyrgios.

“I would love to coach Nick Kyrgios,” Djokovic said with his tongue planted firmly in cheek.

“He would win five Slams with me, but it would not come cheap.”
