The Swiss claimed his last Masters 1000 title that year and stood a point away from beating Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final. Roger kicked off the 2020 season at the Australian Open and reached the third round for the 21st time in Melbourne following two dominant victories!
The veteran needed an hour and 32 minutes to dismiss Filip Krajinovic 6-1, 6-4, 6-1 and move into the last 32. Federer was thundering from start to finish and left the Serb miles behind. The legend’s performance “caused” an impressed John McEnroe to check again how old he was during an on-court interview.
It was another dominant performance from a six-time Melbourne champion. He fired 42 winners and made 14 unforced errors to have the upper hand and earn his 99th victory in the record-breaking 21st campaign at Melbourne Park.
The Swiss gave away 19 points on serve, suffering one break in the second set and securing seven return games from 14 chances to race toward the finish line.

Roger flew over the court in the opening set, striking 13 winners and four unforced errors and outplaying Krajinovic fair and square.
Federer grabbed a break in the second game after the rival’s backhand mistake and delivered another with a forehand winner at 3-0. The Swiss raced into a 5-0 advantage thanks to a forehand winner after only 15 minutes!
Serving for the set at 5-1, Federer blasted four winners to wrap up the opener in 20 minutes, looking sharp and determined to move over the top in no time. With momentum on his side, Roger forced Filip’s error at the beginning of the second set to grab an instant break.
The Swiss wasted more chances at 3-1 and allowed the Serb to pull the break back at 3-4 after a forced error. Staying focused, Federer earned another break a few minutes later following Krajinovic’s terrible mistake at the net.
Roger brought the set home in the next one and moved a set away from victory after 59 minutes. Filip kicked off the third set with a double fault and handed a break to Roger, who grabbed more return games at 3-1 and 5-1 to sail over the finish line and enter the last 32.
